You Again

From the album:  Stereo Biplane

The Story:

This is a wistful story about two ex-lovers in a chance meeting after many years of separation. After the initial shock and awe of running into each other it seems that they've returned to where they left off, and it's a good thing that they went their own ways and might be best for both that they never see each other again as feelings still run strong. I started writing this one in Fall 2002 and finished it in Spring 2003.

Studio Players:

Getty—lead vocals, lead guitar

David Baumert—bass

Tim Osborne—drums

Steve Leigh—rhythm guitars, backing vocals

Jonathan Clutskeyboards

Lyrics:

Here we are and it's you again

The dream returns how long has it been

I hold my breath and I count to ten

I open my eyes and it's you again

The way we were what could have been

Was better off twisting in the wind

Count the cards it's lose or win

Here we are and it's you again

I see that life's been good to you

The city lights with an ocean view

A diamond bright my how you glow

Happiness by the boatload

Here we are and it's you again

The dream returns how long has it been

I hold my breath and I count to ten

I open my eyes and it's you again

So many hours but not enough days

So many tears it took to kill that blaze

Pull up a chair you know the show's just begun

A world premier or just a bad re-run

Can you see me now

Can you see me now

Can you see me now

Will you remain a sight unseen

In a prom night dress or filthy dungarees

A first-and-ten on second thought

A sure-fire deal or just a might long shot

Here we are and it's you again

The dream returns how long has it been

I hold my breath and I count to ten

I open my eyes and it's you again
